The Choir

As the name suggest we are a Gravesend based society and most of our concerts are performed in the North West Kent area. What the name "choir" doesn't tell you is that no we don't sing church music unless it is Christmas Carols and most of the music we sing is songs from musicals or popular songs from back in the 1930s right up to the modern day with a bit of Gilbert and Sullivan thrown in for good measure and good fun.

Some of the choir members cannot read music or sight read so there is no need for you to worry if you're the same. Parts for different voices are taught line by line and everyone is very generous about helping each other learn their parts. What we achieve at the end of the day is really very good, even if we say so ourselves!

The choir presently has a concert season running from November to June every year. Our principal rehearsal evening is a Tuesday evening held at the "3 Daws" public house function room (downstairs) in Gravesend (next to the town pier) from 7.45pm to 10pm. (free parking available close by)

With Spring Concerts approaching we often have extra rehearsals on Thursday at the Age Concern Unit in Clarence Row, Gravesend.

Men wanted

As always, and like most other choirs or singing groups we are always looking for new voices, especially you men out there. We know you are out there, blessed with a good voice but perhaps you've always thought it might be a bit silly to stand up and sing on a stage in a music concert?

Well why not try us out for a couple of Tuesday evening? Don't forget that we all had to turn up the first time, so we do understand if you feel a bit embarrassed.....besides an evening spent with 30 women who will all be pleased to hear you singing in the back row can't be bad.

The Musical Shows

For current information

The days of being able to put on a large musical show at the Woodville Halls every year have sadly come to an end. The Woodville Halls have decided in their wisdom to not offer the discounted price for the use of the facilities to local community based societies and thus priced amateur shows out of the Woodville Halls.

We have been promised a new, smaller theatre to allow us and others to continue producing musical shows in the future but how the funding for this will be found and when the new theatre will be built have not yet been finalised. All we know is that at present "Crazy for You"® will be ours and every other amateur companies last show at the "Woodies"

We do still have ambitions to put on further musical shows perhaps at the Guild Theatre in Vale Road but at present there is no definite decision owing to the lack of decisions coming from elsewhere. If we have further news it will be posted on out "news" page.
